New York City
This summer in New York City, we’ll be producing a series of events as part of SummerStage. Five SummerStage VOICES programs will feature contemporary artists and authors who will use events and words from our nation’s history as inspiration for new discussions. The series will culminate in Central Park on August 28 with live readings, dialogue, music, and celebration with very special guests. By giving public expression to rebels, dissenters, and visionaries from our past—and present—SummerStage and VOICES seek to educate and inspire a new generation working for social justice.
Join us on Saturday, June 30, 2018 when poet Staceyann Chin will be hosting a pre-show Voices of A People’s History workshop before the performance.
The MC and lyricist Talib Kweli first came into the public consciousness as one of the forces behind the underground hip-hop sensation, Black Star. Since then, the Brooklyn native has embarked on a remarkable solo musical and acting career, working with everyone from Quincy Jones to Kanye West. In his home borough, he’s joined by the stylings of the extraordinary D.C.-based up-and-comers, OSHUN.
