This summer in New York City, we’ll be producing a series of events as part of SummerStage. Five SummerStage VOICES programs will feature contemporary artists and authors who will use events and words from our nation’s history as inspiration for new discussions. The series will culminate in Central Park on August 28 with live readings, dialogue, music, and celebration with very special guests. By giving public expression to rebels, dissenters, and visionaries from our past—and present—SummerStage and VOICES seek to educate and inspire a new generation working for social justice.

Join us on Saturday, August 4, 2018 when actor and poet muMs, aka Craig Grant will be hosting a pre-show Voices of A People’s History Workshop before the performance.

Dancehall would not exist the way we know it without Jamaica’s trailblazing Sister Nancy. Her ebullient, visionary knockout single, “Bam Bam,” is not only a foundational cornerstone of dancehall, but of hip-hop, too. She’ll perform along with the multi-disciplinary musician Shinehead and the eclectic sounds of DJ Misbehaviour on the ones and twos.
